Chapter Seven · The drawer

Crawfish shells
and a koozie

There's a drawer. In it: a biodegradable plastic made out of , a koozie, juice packaging, beauty products, a security-services platform. Years of nights and weekends.

Most of them failed. That's the honest number and I'd rather print it than round it.

The crawfish plastic is the one that still gets me. Real chemistry. It worked.

It worked, and it was still not a business.

Nobody was standing around waiting for it. I had fallen in love with how clever it was, which is a different thing entirely from somebody needing it. I paid full retail to learn that difference.

What survived the drawer isn't a product. It's a habit: ask who is already unhappy about this, before you ask what you could build.

Fall in love with the problem. Stay suspicious of your solution.

I'd pay for that lesson again. I would, however, prefer not to.
